Meet Sam: Finding Connection in Remote Work

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Sam – one of our remote team members – to our head office in Winnipeg for the very first time. We sat down with him to chat about his experience working remotely from Brazil, how he stays connected, and what it was like to finally experience the Metric magic in person. Here is what he had to say.
Q: What is it like to be a remote employee?
I love working remotely – it’s comfortable, super productive, and gives me the freedom to work from anywhere. That said, I definitely get a little FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) whenever fun stuff is happening back at the office.
Q: How do you stay connected to Metric while working remotely?
Metric does a great job with regular team syncs. Plus, our team sets aside dedicated weekly time just to catch up, whether that’s talking about work or simply hanging out. It really helps bridge the gap.
Q: What were your impressions of Metric when you visited in person? What surprised you or felt instantly authentic?
Having had so many video calls beforehand, walking in felt like stepping into a familiar space! What struck me most was the genuine team synergy. You can immediately tell how deeply connected everyone is, especially given how many team members have worked together for 4 or 5+ years.
Q: What was your #1 highlight from your visit to Metric?
Without a doubt, the incredible warmth and kindness of the team.
Q: What advice would you give other remote employees for working successfully?
Focus on crystal-clear communication, anticipate roadblocks before they happen, and stay intentionally proactive.
Q: What do you think Metric does well regarding remote work?
Metric levels the playing field for all local and remote teams. All our core communication, meetings, and syncs happen digitally, so everyone stays aligned and included, regardless of whether they’re at a desk in the Winnipeg office or working remotely.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about your trip?
Winnipeg completely won me over! It’s a beautiful, charming, and relaxed city that I’d highly recommend to anyone visiting Canada.
