Meet InformNet

For over 25 years, InformNet has been Manitoba’s only accredited online high school. 

Grade 9–12 students – whether they’re currently adolescents or adults seeking to complete their education – have direct access to a full selection of asynchronous courses as well as certified teachers and other resources. 

It’s a flexible, engaging path for upgrading your education and receiving your high school diploma. 

The Challenge

InformNet is an entirely online experience and service. 

They use a third-party Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver courses, but their primary touchpoint remains their public-facing website, which, in its current state, was failing to properly inform potential audiences of the process, and did not accurately represent the breadth of operations and impressive capabilities of InformNet, affecting the site’s ability to convert. 

This website was in need of a dramatic update to improve the user experience, better integrate advanced technologies, and generally elevate the reputation and status of the brand. 

The Strategy

The first step for this project was a familiar one for us: research.

Metric’s project leads – including representatives from our digital, creative, and web teams – met with InformNet to map out what steps would be needed to achieve the ultimate goal of increasing website traffic and enrollment rates.

Multiple areas for improvement were identified:

  • Visual identity and presentation 
  • Accessibility 
  • Integration with third-party tech 
  • Data capturing 
  • Presentation of brand information, benefits, and offerings

Now fully aware of the issues, goals, and specific requirements, Metric’s project leads partnered with the project management team to develop an actionable plan that drew on the expertise of each involved department.

The Execution

A wholesale rebuild of the website was undertaken that better represented InformNet’s status as a respected high school with accredited courses, certified teachers, and quality tech.


This included the following:

  • Evolving  and modernizing the logo and other visual brand elements 
  • Building an entirely new, more intuitive site map
  • Ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
  • Implementing an easy-to-use content management system
  • Optimizing for mobile, social, and search 
  • Integrating seamlessly with Brightspace (InformNet’s LMS)
  • Rebuilding website forms to automatically capture data

These steps were accomplished one by one with our team’s knowledge of industry best practices, trademark collaboration, and attention to detail – which could really shine thanks to InformNet’s convivial, engaging approach.

The Results

InformNet received an entirely new digital presence that included upgrades in virtually every area:

Evolved logo and brand presentation

  • This brought life and energy to the brand, positioning them as a modern and viable option for students.

Top-to-bottom reworking of the website site map, design and flow

  • This helped audiences find and interact with information more easily, and they’re now spending an average of nearly 5 minutes browsing the site.

Proper integration of InformNet’s third-party tech

  • This included how the forms are presented and managed, greatly improving the ease and accuracy of data capture to inform marketing efforts, which has led to 59% of users finding the site organically.

Introduction of WordPress

  • This allows for quick, easy content management and updates, which has helped the InformNet team better control their website’s timeliness.

Mobile-friendly readiness

  • This is huge in terms of how InformNet’s is able to interact with its target audiences of teenagers or busy students. In fact, 25% of registrations are now received via mobile devices.

The changes were substantial, and InformNet was truly blown away with what we delivered.
